NOW! Trio
The NOW! Trio. Well... first of all, we like to play as a quartet. Original music with Afro-Cuban, boogaloo, livetronica, jazz, and rock influences. Kind of like the Meters got together with Chano Pozo, Frank Zappa, Charlie Haden, the Greyboy Allstars and Garaj Mahal for a couple rounds.
The NOW! Trio comes from diverse backgrounds, having played with Eleven Eyes, Sugarbeets, Damien Erskine, Everyone Orchestra, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, Orange, Son Melao, Ramsey Embrick, and many more groups before this incarnation. Tim McLaughlin (guitar and electronics) and Sean Peterson (upright bass) met while playing together in the rock band, John Shipe and the Blue Rebekahs. The two began playing together as a Duo, performing still throughout the Willamette Valley. Tim and Sean both met up with Rafael Trujillo (percussion) when all three musicians were playing Salsa in Son Mela'o. Rafael's expertise in traditional music from Cuba, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico, is an invaluable asset to the NOW! Trio Tim met Brian West (drums) on Craigslist while looking to buy some music gear, and they both realized they were already booked together to play with Halie Loren. Small world!!
An unlikely mob, but the enjoyment of making music together is unique and special, and has a spirit of playing in the here and NOW! With the heavy groove of a killin' Salsa band, some butt-bumpin' New Orleans grease, and the intensity of a rock band turned up to 11, the NOW! Trio lays it down! Come dance!!
